Bimal K C, Ph.D.

Professor of Physics at Central Texas College

My CV

I was born and raised in Nepal, where I earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Physics from Tribhuvan University. In 2019, I obtained a Master of Science in Physics from The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). I received my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Computational Science from UTEP in December 2024 with the Academic & Research Excellence Outstanding Graduate Student Computational Science award.

My Ph.D. research focuses on modeling the free energy and thermal properties of solids, especially transition metals, under high pressures and temperatures. We aim to develop a more accurate method for evaluating thermal properties and equations of state (EOS) in these extreme conditions. This involves computing the free energies of elemental metals and alloys and assessing their phase stability with temperature and pressure. Also, we incorporated the temperature effect in our calculation using harmonic ensemble lattice dynamics (HELD) employing classical molecular dynamics (LAMMPS) as well as quantum molecular dynamics (QMD).

Teaching

I am currently a Professor of Physics at Central Texas College. My teaching focuses on helping students develop a strong understanding of fundamental physics concepts through lectures, problem solving, laboratory experiments, demonstrations, and real-world applications.

I emphasize both conceptual understanding and mathematical problem-solving skills. My goal is to help students connect physics concepts with everyday experiences and develop analytical skills useful in science and engineering.
